Just a quick note from me today, to say that if you're in the mood to bake something, it should be Deb Perelman's Chocolate Buckwheat Cake from Smitten Kitchen.
I made it at the weekend and it was incredible, chocolatey and rich but not at all too sweet. Serving suggestions include creme fraiche and berries, and I can see both of those working wonderfully.
For this cake, you really do need an electric mixer of some kind - but I have a cheap hand mixer from Sainsbury's which worked perfectly well, so you don't need a fancy stand mixer by any means. In terms of ingredients, I used 'ground almonds' from the supermarket which seemed to fit the bill in place of the specified 'almond meal.' And I used Green & Black's 70% dark chocolate, which was perfect.
I'll be making it again in the near future (and not only because I could only buy a whole kilogram bag of buckwheat flour....)
